You may not remember what you were doing on October 27th, 1975, but you can bet Bruce Springsteen does. This date is the day he appeared on the cover of Time Magazine. “Born to Run” his groundbreaking album was climbing the charts, and the Time cover proved Bruce was the future of rock and roll.
“Greetings from Asbury Park” was a wonderful album that was turning into a cult LP, but the Time magazine cover officially sounded the death knell of Disco, the genre that had its stranglehold on music in the 70s.
April 12th, 1954 is considered to be the birthday of rock and roll, given that “Rock Around the Clock” by Bill Haley and his Comets was recorded. The song was a true departure from the music of the day, staying on the top 100 charts for 38 weeks.
June 1st, 1967 was the release date of the Beatles “Sgt. Peppers’ Lonely Hearts Club Band” LP, changing music again (The Beatles appearing on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1964 was the first shot heard around the music world). No one had ever heard such ‘psychedelic’ sounds, crazy album cover, and witnessed rocks original concept album.
