We were all saddened to hear the news that Keith Emmerson had died a few weeks ago. Emerson Lake and Palmer (ELP) was a very different band from England that formed in early 1970s. Keyboardist Keith Emerson introduced the ‘Moog Synthesizer,’ which was not heard in popular music at that time. Here are our favorite ELP songs…
“Hoedown” is a snappy organ driven song that you often hear at sporting events.
“I Believe in Father Christmas” was an album filler prodded by the bands manager and has turned out to be the most popular Christmas song played by radio. The oddity is that this progressive rock band made a Christmas song that can be played on any radio station in America. The royalties from this song alone keeps the boys financially sound.
“From the Beginning” was the band’s first commercial hit, featuring the patented Emerson Moog Synthesizer.
“Lucky Man” is the haunting ballad that enjoyed huge album radio play and was an ode to the assassination of JFK in the early 60s.
