One Night That Changed Music Forever

We know that life is all about unexplained moments. Have you ever wondered about the moments in rock and roll that changed everything, music’s most significant events?

The night was frightfully cold; a storm was coming in from the west. It was February 3, 1959, and fans were milling around the Surf Ballroom, the scene where Richie Valens, J.P. Richardson (The Big Bopper) and Buddy Holly has just given a show, part of the Winter Dance Party. The tour bus was always cold, so Buddy decided to fly. The rest they say is history, as all members of the small place perished that night.

Buddy had already broken record and recording rules for good; he wrote and recorded his own songs, brought ‘over dubbing’ and new instruments into the studio, and changed the business aspects of traditional music in just a few short years. J.P and Richie would have likely had moderate successful careers had they lived, but Buddy would have grown into a significant producer and recorded executive for sure.
