Could the “Taylor Swift effect” swing the Tennessee Senate race? That’s what Wall Street Journal political editor Jeanne Cummings wondered on “Shepard Smith Reporting” on Thursday when she was asked if there’s a midterm race that will surprise people.

Swift issued a rare political endorsement via Instagram last month, declaring her support for Democratic Senate candidate and former Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen over his Republican rival Rep. Marsha Blackburn. Recent polling shows Bredesen trailing Blackburn by at least several points, but Cummings believes Swift’s massive social media following could come into play.
