Will Oprah Run in 2018?

If we’ve learned anything about the body politics this past year, it’s that in national politics, anything is possible. Who could have predicted a billionaire with no political experience becoming the President of the United States? This past week at the 75th Golden Globes celebration, Oprah Winfrey all but threw in her hat for serious consideration for running for President in 2020.

Here’s the argument for her getting in the race; Oprah is a billionaire, has an incredible score for name recognition, and has been both a social and environmental voice for decades. Her partner Stedman Graham has told the press that her consideration is real, but added that her decision to run would be up to the people.

Here are the reasons she may have second thoughts about running for President; the schedule and commitment represent hard work. Candidates lives are fully espoused, every little detail, every little nuance. Oprah can also be a very polarizing candidate to many Americans, in a time the country needs to heal. It’s unlikely that Americans would choose a second ‘celebrity’ with no political experience, but anything is possible.
