On Tuesday, October 29th, Dolly was at the premiere of her new Netflix anthology series Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings at Dollywood in Tennessee. Throughout the evening, the country superstar revealed that the much anticipated sequel to the 1980 comedy 9 to 5 has been dropped.

In a recent interview with ET, she was asked how the remake was going. “Well, actually I think we dropped that whole idea.. I don’t think we’re going to do the sequel. We never could get the script where it was enough different than the first one, and that one turned out so good.”

“We’re thinking we might do a completely different thing together, Jane, Lily and I,” Parton hinted. “We may do something different altogether, but I don’t think we’re going to continue with that.”

Parton first revealed the news of a possible remake in 2018 to ABC’s Nightlight. “All these years, we’ve talked about doing a sequel,” Parton told ABC’s Nightline. Given the current cultural climate, “it never made any real sense until just recently.”
