Uber Eats Is Waiving Delivery Fees For Orders From Black-Owned Restaurants Through The End Of The Year

Reuters reports that Uber’s CEO Dara Khosrowshahi is taking two new steps it is taking to support black restaurant owners in the food community through Uber Eats. Now, when you open the app in a major city, you will see a prompt to “support black-owned restaurants.” That will lead you to a list of restaurants you can order from through the app based on your location. Additionally, a delivery fee won’t be charged when you place an order to one of the restaurants through the end of 2020.

Uber thus joins many other brands who have announced efforts this week to support and uplift black-owned businesses and communities following the death of George Floyd. “I wish that the lives of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and countless others weren’t so violently cut short,” Khosrowshahi wrote in an email to customers. “I wish that institutional racism, and the police violence it gives rise to, didn’t cause their deaths.”
