One of the most popular rocker in all of rock is the U2 lead singer and front man Bono, earning yet another honor these past days; he was bestowed the George W. Bush Medal for Distinguished Leadership. Bono was recognized for Bono’s fighting the dreaded HIV/AIDS disease, helping stamp out poverty, and helping raise hundreds of millions of dollars for good causes.

Bono’s the first recipient of the George W. Bush Medal for Distinguished Leadership Award, but he’s used to the recognition by peers and world leaders. In 2003 he received the MusicCares Person of the Year. The band U2 has earned nearly every award give, and continue to tour to this day. Perhaps the biggest accomplishment is their scoring the ‘Record of the Year’ Grammy Awards in two consecutive years, generated from the the songs “Beautiful Day” in 2001 and “Walk On” in 2002.

Life was not always a snap for Bono; during one of U2’s first dates outside Ireland, they played a gig at the ‘Islington’s Hope and Anchor’ event to a crowd of only nine people.
