Two Superstars have Appeared to Finally Bury the Hatchet

The Queen of Pop and the recent Academy Award winner embraced at Madonna’s post-Oscars celebration Sunday, signaling an end to their years-long feud.

In the Time portrait, Madonna nestles Lady Gaga’s face as the actress triumphantly holds the Oscar statuette she won for best original song for the “A Star Is Born” anthem “Shallow.” The iconic image was taken at Madonna’s star-studded bash, simply dubbed “The Party.” Madonna shared a similar image on Twitter and Instagram Monday, captioning the shot: “Don’t Mess with Italian Girls.”

Madonna and Lady Gaga’s on-and-off feuding started in 2011 after Gaga was accused of ripping off Madonna’s 1989 song “Express Yourself” in her single “Born This Way.” The Material Girl sounded off on the charges a year later, telling ABC News that Gaga’s hit song “feels reductive” before quite literally sipping some tea.

Gaga responded to Madonna’s shade in her 2017 Netflix documentary, “Gaga: Five Foot Two.” Gaga criticized Madonna for not voicing her issues directly. “The only thing that really bothers me about her is that I’m Italian and from New York …so if I have a problem with somebody I’m going to (expletive) tell you to your face,” Gaga said candidly in the film.

She continued: “No matter how much respect I have for her as a performer, I could never wrap my head around the fact that she wouldn’t look me in the eye and tell me that I was reductive or whatever. … Telling me you think I’m a piece of (expletive) through the media?”

But based on Sunday’s post-Oscar’s moment, thankfully, it looks like everyone has put the past behind them.
