Two One Hit Wonders to Reminisce About

You know that they say – even a blind squirrel finds an acorn once in a while. In the music world, that means even the most mediocre band runs into a hit. We call these ‘One Hit Wonders,’ and we just can’t get enough of them.

The group, Brownsville Station did have a hit song but are not from Brownsville TX, or from any southern city whatsoever. The six-man rock group that hit the charts just once with the high school anthem “Smoking in the Boys Room” is from Ann Arbor Michigan! The song sold over two million copies, and the bands driving force Michael “Cub” Koda was a sight to see on stage. Cub died in 2000 of kidney failure.

So who is T. Rex? You know their only hit record “Bang a Gong,” a glam/poppy guitar driven song written by the band’s founder Mark Bolan, but did you know that the original band name was Tyrannosaurus Rex?
