Edwin Star hit the charts with “War,” a Vietnam protest song in 1970, a tune well ahead of its time. Edwin also charted with “25 Miles” and “S.O.S.” This talented performer was born in Tennessee, but moved to the Motor City as a child, later moving to London in the 90s primarily due to his displeasure of the way minorities were treated throughout his entire life. Edwin died of a heart attack in 2003 at the age of 62.

The Chambers Brothers hit the charts a few times with great songs, none more popular than “Time” a rock song that happened to be very soulful. “Time” got tons of FM airplay (it was way too long for Top 40 as it was 11 minutes in length). Lester, George, Joe and Willie Chambers were from Los Angeles, got their big break when Folk superstar Pete Seeger saw them, insisting they get in the lineup for the 1965 Newport Folk Festival. The rest as they say, is rock and roll history.
