It’s time for another Beatles Bite! Today, we’re going to look a song that was heavily influenced by Phil Spector, the producer, and really got Paul McCartney mad. “The Long and Winding Road” single comes from the album ‘Let It Be’ and was released in 1970, written by Paul McCarthy. The backstory is pretty interesting.

The Beatles were already having internal conflicts in 1970, and were destined to break up shortly after the studio sessions for the album, but “The Long and Winding Road” may have been the last straw for Paul.

The boys finished what they thought was the final take of the song, and went home for the night. Little did they know producer Phil Spector snuck back into the studio later that night, and added more strings and instruments. This angered Paul so much that he claims it was one of the reasons he chose to leave the band, as the other Beatles didn’t seem to mind the meddling.

Billy Preston is on the single with keyboards, and “The Long and Winding Road” became one of the most popular Beatles songs ever recorded.
