The year was 1991. People were upset that a gallon of gas had inched up to $1.25 a gallon, while abroad Operation Desert Storm was filling the local newscasts of the day. The top moves of the year were Terminator 2: Judgment Day and Thelma & Louise, while urban and soul artists were enjoying great success on the radio. What were the tops songs of the year? Let’s take a look…

“Someday” by Mariah Carey
“From A Distance” by Bette Midler
“Rush Rush” by Paula Abdul
“(Everything I Do) I Do It For You” by Bryan Adams
“Gonna Make You Sweat” by C+C Music Factory
“Baby, Baby” by Amy Grant
“More Than Words” by Extreme
“I Wanna Sex You Up” by Color Me Badd
“One More Try” by Timmy T
“Unbelievable” by EMF
“Motownphilly” by Boyz II Men
“High Enough” by Damn Yankees

Conclusions: As mentioned earlier. soul artists like Mariah, Paula, Color Me Badd, Boyz II Men and C+C and the Music Factory represented a real vibe in the country. Rock was still alive and kicking, as Damn Yankees, Extreme and EMF held their own.
