1972 was a pivotal year in music as Folk/Rock was beginning to take shape, and the early sounds of Disco were about to dominate the 70s. Here are the top songs from 1972…

“Hello It’s Me” from Todd Rundgren
“Smoke on the Water” from Deep Purple
“Do it Again’ from Steely Dan
“You Wear it Well” from Rod Stewart
“Rocket Man” from Elton John
“Tumbling; Dice” from the Rolling Stones
“Schools’ Out” from Alice Cooper
“Heart of Gold” from Neil Young

Prologue: Deep Purple, Elton, the Rolling Stones, Neil Young, Rod Stewart, Alice Copper, and Steely Dan made it to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, while Todd has yet to be asked in spite of his groundbreaking producing and song writing. Some of the best songs from these artists came from 1972, with ‘Smoke” and “Rocket Man” becoming signature tunes for each artist.
