Following Phish’s cautious footsteps, both The Strokes and Yo La Tengo have decided to cancel their New Year’s Eve shows due to a surge in Omicron cases.

The Strokes were set to headline Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, on New Year’s Eve, but the band took to Instagram to share the unfortunate news of the decided postponement.

“How can we put this….” their statement began. “We’re postponing the show. We were so excited to be performing for everyone in Brooklyn this New Year’s Eve, but the Omicron variant has thwarted our plans. We’ve made the decision to postpone our show at Barclays Center. All tickets will be honored for the rescheduled date and details regarding refunds will be offered when the new date is announced. We want everyone to stay safe and healthy and we look forward to celebrating the new year with all of you … just a bit later than originally planned.”

Yo La Tengo was set to play a New Year’s show at Manhattan’s City Winery but also had to break the bad news to their fans with a statement from the venue informing guests, artists, and staff that all shows scheduled for December 31st have been canceled with full refunds available.
