Sam Moore and Dave Prater met while singing in small clubs on amateur night in a few Miami nightclubs in 1961. One night at the King of Hearts Club, they sang together and quickly realized that they were meant to be together. The singing duo of Sam and Dave was born!

“Hold On, I’m Comin’ was released in March of 1966 and became a number one song of the year for 1966 by the Billboard R&B charts. How did the song get its title? One night at rehearsals, the manager called for Dave to get on stage; he was in the men’s room and yelled back “Hold on I’m Coming.” As he stepped on stage to rehears a song that had to have a title, the manager suggested that line, reworking the construction of the song to fit the theme.

Sam and Dave have sold millions of records, toured and sang together for over three decades, and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992. Ther are also in the Grammy, Vocal Group, and Memphis halls of fame. Sadly, Dave Prater died in 1988.
