Singer/songwriter John D. Loudermilk passed away on September 21st, and it made us realize that some of the best songwriters of our time are now gone.
Okay John did not make millions of dollars as a singer, but boy could he write a hit song. Consider that the Paul Revere and the Raiders hit “Indian Reservation,” Stonewall Jackson’s “Waterloo,” the Nashville Teens version of “Tobacco Road” and the Casino’s “Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye” were all written by John D.! The Box Tops, Jerry Lee Lewis, Roy Orbison, The Everly Brothers, Glen Campbell, Linda Ronstadt, and David Lee Roth all sang his original songs.
John was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1976, entering the state of North Carolina Music Hall of Fame in 2011.
