The 70s was a very confusing decade. Folk/Rock was taking off, progressive rock was becoming more commercial and disco would infect the decade with its thump and fashion. The only genre that remained true to its humble beginnings was soul and funk. What were the best soul albums of the 70s?

Earth Wind & Fire and “That’s the Way of the World”
Marvin Gaye with “What’s Going On”
Stevie Wonder with “Songs in the Key of Life”
Michael Jackson and “Off the Wall”
Marvin Gaye with “Let’s Get it On”
Curtis Mayfield and “Superfly”
Al Green with “I’m Still in Love With You”
The O’Jays with “Ship Ahoy”
War and “The World is a Ghetto”
Parliament and “Mothership Connection”
The Spinners with “The Spinners”

Conclusions: The 70s was a monster decade for great songs and talented singers and bands. Nearly ever act on this list is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Unfortunately Marvin, Curtis, Michael, Phillipe Wynne of the Spinners, and Maurice White of EW&F have all passed away. There were no better soul/funk songs around than what the 70s provided.
