The 90s gave the world some pretty cool music, with Green Day, Soundgarden, No Doubt, The Backstreet Boys, U2, and Cranberries on our favorite local radio station. There were however great songs from artists or bands that had only 15 minutes of fame, then disappeared forever. These are known as one-hit wonders and these were the most popular one-hit wonder tunes from the 90s. See if your favorite song is on our list…

“Bitter Sweet Symphony” by the Verve was all the rage in 1996. The song lifted the Rolling Stones song “The Last Time” which is why Mick and Keith are in the song credits.

The Proclaimers hit the charts with a pretty simple song called “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles”) hitting number one in the UK and in the top 10 here in the US. The song exploded when it was used in the soundtrack of ‘Betty and Joon.’ The pair from Scotland never hit the charts again.

“Jump Around” is the most famous song from the 90s that hit the charts from a one-hit wonder in that it’s heard at nearly every sporting event in the land. There weren’t many hip hop bands from Boston like these boys.

Let’s give honorable mentions to Six Mix A Lot’s “Baby Got Back,” “Ice Ice Baby” from Vanilla Ice, Haddaway and “What is Love,” and “Tubthumping” from Chumbawumba.
