The 60s was a time of feminism, racial strife, civil unrest due to the highly unpopular Vietnam War, and the music reflected those times. In the 60s however, a peaceful easy feeling of hope and change appeared on the sheet music of many artists.

“Meet the Beatles” was a bell weather moment in rock and roll in that the songs were composed and sung so differently, it had to knock off Mitch Miller and Doris Day of the charts; both had Top 10s until that album appeared.

“The Sounds of Silence” by Simon and Garfunkel was leveraged in the movie blockbuster “The Graduate” and certified their careers.

It’s hard to believe that “Pet Sounds” is 50 years old, but The Beach Boys changed the harmonies and sound of rock and roll forever with this album, opening the door to all possibilities.
