Philadelphia (Philly) Soul was a particular sound in the middle of psychedelic and rock overtones lush arraignments produced with horns, strings, and soulful artists that often featured instruments which got kids beaten on their way home. TSOP or ‘The Sound of Philadelphia,’ was more than a great tune: it was a way of life and attitude that said to the Motown sound “Hey we’re here too.”

In our opinion, here are the top 10 Philly songs that you must have in your cassette player or 8 Track machine…

10.) “Then Came You” – Dionne Warwick and the Spinners
9.) “When Will I See You Again” – The Three Degrees
8.) “Hey There Lonely Girl” – Eddie Holman
7.) (Tie) “Betcha by Golly Wow” and “You Make Me Feel Brand New” – Stylistics
6.) “Cowboys to Girls” – The Intruders
5.) “Me and Mrs. Jones” – Billy Paul
4.) “Love Train” – The O’ Jays
3.) ‘”Rich Girl” – Hall and Oates
2.) “TSOP” – MFSB
1.) “If You Don’t Know Me Bye Now” – Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes
