Taylor Swift, often celebrated for the relatability and authenticity of her lyricism and music, has just blasted Blur frontman Damon Albarn for claiming the Grammy-winning singer “doesn’t write her own songs.”

In a recent interview, Albarn, who has worked with artists such as the Gorillaz, Snoop Dogg, and Robert Smith, was pretty blunt about what he thinks about Swift’s resume of “co-written” songs.

“[Co-writing] doesn’t count. I know what co-writing is. Co-writing is very different to writing,” Albarn explained of his opinion on the country-turned-pop artist. “I’m not hating on anybody, I’m just saying there’s a big difference between a songwriter and a songwriter who co-writes.”

Swift quickly took to Twitter in her own defense: “I was such a big fan of yours until I saw this. I write ALL of my own songs. Your hot take is completely false and SO damaging. You don’t have to like my songs but it’s really f—d up to try and discredit my writing. WOW.”

Jack Antonoff, producer and fun./Bleachers musician, supported Swift without hesitation.

“I’ve never met damon albarn and he’s never been to my studio but apparently he knows more than the rest of us about all those songs taylor writes and brings in,” Antonoff, who has worked with Swift on four of her albums, wrote. “Shut the f—k up.”

Later on, after a heated response to the interview, Albarn apologized to Swift.

“I totally agree with you. i had a conversation about songwriting and sadly it was reduced to clickbait. I apologise unreservedly and unconditionally,” he explained. “The last thing I would want to do is discredit your songwriting. I hope you understand.”
