Super Groups You May Have Forgotten About

Often times when a great band breaks, up the star of that band looks for another project or band to form. In the 80s the term ‘super group’ appeared; the collaboration of massive stars from various band forging an all-star cast, more often than not just for an album or project.

Here are a few ‘super groups’ that deserve attention…

Asia
Carl Palmer of ‘Emerson Lake and Palmer,’ the late John Wetton of ‘King Crimson,’ Steve Howe and Geoff Downes of ‘Yes’ were the key players of Asia. Asia hit the charts with “The Heat of the Moment,” “Only Time will Tell” and “Soul Survivor.” The band sold millions of albums over their short career, as Asia.

The Traveling Wilburys
Talk about a super group, Roy Orbison, George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty, and Bob Dylan broke ground and sales records for this genre, selling nearly 30 million albums overall. The band enjoyed moderate chart success with “Handle with Care,” “End of the Line,” “Nobody’s Child” and “She’s My Baby.”
