Although it’s not the same as ‘where were you when JFK was assassinated,’ most rock fans remember the moment their favorite radio station or TV bulletin gave us the tragic news that the plane carrying Lynyrd Skynyrd going down. In retrospect, it’s amazing there were any survivors in that plane crash at all!

Now, there’s a movie, beginning production in the next 30 days for a film called ‘Street Survivors: The True Story of the Lynyrd Skynyrd Plane Crash’ that has captured both Hollywood and music fans curiosity. Although it’s bound to be a great movie, the cast will not feature any big name stars.

Artimus Pyle is one of the survivors of the crash, and the movie goer will witness the experiences and crash through his eyes. The tragic plane crash took place on October 20, 1977, when the bands plane simply ran out of fuel over Mississippi following a show in Greenville, South Carolina. Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist Steve Gaines, Cassie Gaines his sister, the manager, and the two pilots were killed.

Street Survivors their last LP had just been released, and as fate would have it, the album cover had the band standing in front of gigantic flames – the label immediately swapped out the background upon news of the tragedy.
