Stevie Wonder was honored last week in Los Angeles at the 2017 ‘ASCAP “I Create Music” EXPO.’ The award he received that night is actually named after him; it’s called the “Key of Life” award. It’s fitting he received the first in this new category; the future chosen honorees will be recognized for their commitment to the art of creating music.
Stevie has won an incredible 22 Grammys including a Lifetime Achievement Award, the prestigious Kennedy Center Award, Billboard Icon, American Music and Golden Globe, Soul Train, and countless NAACP awards over his 40 year career.
Did you know that Stevie recorded and released his live “Fingertips” at the age of 13, becoming the first Motown artist to have a ‘live’ single on the charts? Oh, Marvin Gaye played drums on the song.
Stevie Wonders song “Happy Birthday,” a tribute to the iconic civil rights leader Martin Luther King, is credited as the reason we celebrate Martin’s birthday as a national holiday, approved by then President Ronald Reagan a few years after its release.
