Many bands and artists have been paying tribute to the The Cars’ late frontman Ric Ocasek over these past few weeks, and another band to add to that list is The Red Hot Chili Peppers.

The rock band played their rendition of The Cars’ No. 27-hit “Just What I Needed” during its concert at the Singapore Grand Prix Sunday night in Marina Bay, Singapore.

While staying true to the original tune’s new wave cadence, RHCP lead singer Anthony Kiedis led homage to Ocasek, but adding his own flare to the song, especiall when it came to the chorus.

Ocasek was found dead at his New York City townhouse by Porizkova on September 15, 2019, where he had been recovering from surgery. The Chief Medical Examiner office reported that Ocasek died from natural causes.
