Robert Guillaume, Star of Soap and Benson has Passed

Robert Guillaume, veteran television and Hollywood actor, has died at the age of 89 of prostate cancer in Los Angeles this week. Robert first began his acting career on Broadway, starring in the productions of Kwamina, Tambourines to Glory, and Guys and Dolls (for which he earned a Tony Award) in the mid-60s.

His greatest accomplishments turned out to be an actor who played a pivotal role in the controversial show ‘Soap’ which paved the way for his signature program ‘Benson.’ Over the last two decades Robert enjoyed great success as a vocal actor, lending his voice to the television program ‘Fish Police,’ ‘Happily Ever After: Fairy Tales for Every Child,’ and ‘Captain Planet and the Planeteers.’ He also landed the voice for Rafiki in the movie ‘Lion King.’

Robert Guillaume leaves behind an ex-wife, present wife Donna Brown-Guillaume, and five children.
