Tom Petty has officially passed away at the age of 66. There had been conflicting reports from both medical officials and family up until now, but it’s been confirmed by his management group. Tom was found by paramedics in his Malibu home late Sunday night in full cardiac arrest, rushed to the hospital, placed on life support, and eventually lost his battle.
Tom and his pals The Heartbreakers began a 40th-anniversary tour this year, taking them to various parts of the US, their last live performances at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.
Peers from Ringo Starr to Bob Dylan have expressed their sadness and appreciation for the life and times of Tom. Perhaps it was at Tom’s induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2016, as friends and family raised a glass to our modern day poet and exclaimed: “what a ride it’s been.”
