Longtime British singer Phil Collins announced in February that he has returned to good health, plans on being back in the studio, and will tour later this year. That’s great news for music fans everywhere; his news inspired us to share what we believe are his best 5 songs. Let’s break down some of his best work…
“Take Me Home” is the classic MTV tune that opened the door to stadium tours in the mid-80s, appealing to adults everywhere. The video took viewers to London, Memphis, New York, San Francisco, St. Louis, Stockholm, Chicago and Austin.
“You’ll Be in My Heart” was an instant hit as it came from the Disney animated movie, ‘Tarzan,’ bringing music and Hollywood together for this top 10 single. The song earned Phil a coveted Golden Globe and Academy Award for best Original Song. Phil also won a Grammy with this smash hit.
“In the Air Tonight” was his coming single from his first solo album ‘Face Value’ written about the anger he felt during his divorce from his first wife. The song was also featured in a ‘Miami Vice’ TV show episode.
“You Can’t Hurry Love” is the classic Supremes song recorded and released in late 1982. The song was played on many formats, expanding his fan base from FM to pop culture water coolers.
“Against All Odds” from the movie of the same name was a million certified gold record in 1984. Who didn’t think Rachel Ward was the bomb? The song earned Phil a Grammy for Best Vocal performance in 1985.
