Planes Trains and Automobiles was a highly popular John Candy/Steve Martin movie from 1987, but these forms of travel have always appeared in great songs along the way.

“Jet Airliner” was a catch simply song from Steve Miller from his “Book of Dreams” album in 1977, but was written by Paul Pena, a folk singer that was blind. Paul had very little success as a performer, but by the grace of God was bestowed all the royalties from the Steve Miller song. Life is good right?

Joni Mitchell had “Big Yellow Taxi,” Bruce Springsteen gave us “Pink Cadillac,” the Beatles delivered “Drive My Car” and there was also “I’M in Love With My Car” from Queen.

“Locomotive Breath” by Jethro Tull was a wonderful rock song that sounded different than any other song in its time, while Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath’s “Crazy Train” piled on.

Train continued to be a very popular method of transportation in rock like “Rock and Roll Train” from AC/DC, Aerosmith warned that the “Train Kept a Rollin” and the Clash sang about a “Train In Vain.”
