The 5th Dimension was a soulful group from the 60s and 70s that dominated the music world with energy, love, and great music. Marilyn McCoo, Billy Davis, Jr., Ron Townson, Florence LaRue, and LaMonte McLemore began as the Versatiles in 1965, but changed their name, signing with recording star and record executive Johnny Rivers. Here’s part one of “Our Favorite 5th Dimension Songs.”

“Up Up and Away” won 1968 Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal, and Record of the Year, and Song of the Year.

“One Less Bell to Answer” was a wonderful ballad featuring the talents of Marilyn and was featured in the 70s TV series, ‘It Takes a Thief’ with Robert Wagner.

“Medley: Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In” was the song of the year in 1969, and the medley of two songs written for the 1967 musical ‘Hair,’ so it’s considered the groups signature tune.

“Wedding Bell Blues” was written by struggling artist Laura Nyro who had also written two other hits for the 5th, “Stoned Soul Picnic” and “Sweet Blindness.”

“Save the Country” is another Laura Nyro tune that attempted to make the 5th more hip as it dealt with political unrest in the early 70s.
