Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn once in a while. Even the most average garage bands hit the charts at least once. Let’s celebrate a few of the one hit wonders we love…

In July of 1968, a group called ‘Every Mother’s Son’ forced their way onto the charts with a great one hit song called “Come on Down to My Boat.” Formed in New York in the early 60s, Brothers Dennis and Larry Larden began their musical journey as a due, later adding a drummer and bass, and began playing SoHo and Greenwich Village bars in the early 60s. The bands success came in the middle of hippie and psychedelic sounds, these guys were pitched as clean cut and pure at heart. The approach worked once, and we’re happy it did.

If you’ve ever heard the song “Fire” by the band ‘The Crazy World of Arthur Brown,’ released in 1968, you might not realize that it’s more than a one hit wonder. The song was a studio concoction with unknown Ron Wood (Stones) on the song, in later years Arthur Brown would add background vocals to the 70s Alan Parsons Project.
