They say you can pick your friends, but you can’t pick your relatives. Having a family business is part of the American entrepreneurial dream, building a company or brand side by side with a brother or sister can be both rewarding; but it can also be very difficult, especially in the music business.

The Allman Brothers Band – Duane & Gregg Allman were not only siblings but music virtuosos on their guitars and keyboards. Duane and Gregg are now both gone, but their music lives on forever.

The Beach Boys – Brian, Carl & Dennis Wilson are the perfect example of bothers in musical disarray; we know that their dad Murray produced and directed their success, and was the genesis of most of their despair and anger.

The Kinks – Dave and Ray Davies are brothers who shared the same vision of rock.

Creedence Clearwater Revival – John and Tom Fogerty are another brotherly examples of family members that were nicer to each other on stage than off stage.
