New Treats Coming to Easter Baskets in 2019

Easter is just a few weeks away, and candy manufacturers are coming out with all sorts of new tasty treats to fill your baskets.  We’re talking new M&M’s, churro-flavored eggs from Russell Stover, and a slew of new Peeps.  Speaking of which, marshmallow was definitely a prevailing theme this year, as were some truly unique flavor combinations.  See the full candy roundup below.

M&M’s

White chocolate marshmallow M&M’s have hit Target this Easter season, which apparently taste more like white chocolate than marshmallow, and come in three colors: white, blue, and a beige-y color. And while not an Easter-specific product, hazelnut spread M&M’s (think Nutella) will also debut this April, in case you want to add to your spread.

Russell Stover

If you’re into cinnamon and sugar, look no further than Russell Stover’s new churro marshmallow eggs, which are exactly what they sound like—churro-flavored marshmallow eggs, wrapped in a candy shell. The Daily Meal reports that the churro egg is starting to appear in local stores.

Peeps

This is a busy year for Peeps, and fans will find several new flavors (and candies!) this spring. Nationally, there are three additions to the Peeps marshmallow family—pancakes & syrup, cotton candy, and orange sherbet flavored Peeps Delights dipped in crème-flavored fudge (think Creamsicle – yum)!  Exclusively launching at select stores, including root beer float marshmallow chicks at Kroger, and Peeps Filled Delights in a chocolate caramel swirl flavor. Plus, Peeps jelly beans and milk chocolate bunnies will also be a thing—so you have Peeps to thank when you’re filling up Easter baskets.

Dove

If you’ve ever wondered how carrot cake and chocolate would go together, you’re in luck—Dove White Chocolate Carrot Cake Promises have launched exclusively at Target, first spotted by @candyhunting on Instagram. The label says that they come with graham-flavored crisps—and, considering how much bunnies supposedly love carrots, it’s a fun way to get into the holiday spirit.

Cadbury

Earlier this year, Cadbury announced its new “Shimmer Mini Eggs,” which are milk chocolate eggs coated in a sparkling, pastel candy shell. They taste exactly like (because they are) the regular mini eggs, but they’ll make a pretty addition to your Easter candy haul, so go for the bedazzle.

Reese’s

The much-beloved Reese’s Peanut Butter Creme Eggs are getting an upgrade this year, with the addition of Reese’s Pieces stuffed inside—a holiday riff on stuffed Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.  Limited-edition Reese’s Lover cups (for peanut butter and chocolate fans) also launch this April, so stock up before they’re gone.

Sour Patch Kids

First they’re sour, then they’re…marshmallows? This Easter season, Walmart will exclusively carry new Sour Patch Kids Marshmallows, which come in four different flavors: redberry, lime, blue raspberry, and orange.

Brach’s

These tiny “Purple Rain” jelly bird eggs (perhaps a nod to Prince?) come in four flavors: berry, blueberry, blue raspberry, and grape. According to the site, you can buy them in 3 ounce or 11 ounce bags.

SweeTARTS and Sour Punch

Looking for a twist on traditional jellybeans? SweeTARTS just released a new bag of sour ones—pucker up. Sour Punch’s 2019 Easter launch is “Chicks & Bunnies”—animal-shaped sweet and sour gummies, which come in lemon and watermelon flavors.

Oreos

According to MSN, the new version will not only feature egg-shaped cookies, but also a bright purple creme instead of the regular white filling. The cookies will also reportedly be stamped with “four fun spring designs.” From the very few grainy pre-release photos that exist on Instagram at the moment, those designs look to be pretty typically Easter-y: eggs with squiggles, eggs with stripes, and eggs with zig-zaggy bits.

Nerds

Forget the tiny boxes of Nerds you once knew—this April, the company will launch “Sour Big Chewy Nerds,” which have a chewy center and a sweet, crunchy Nerds candy shell, according to a statement. The bag includes several flavors: Brainiac Blue Raspberry, Streaming Strawberry Lemonade, Wiki Watermelon, and Blood Orange Byte. Although not directly Easter-related, they’re kind of egg-shaped, right?
