In a not-so-new-trend, a handful of rock n’ roll greats are putting their song catalogs on the market with pretty large price tags.
Bruce Springsteen was one of the most recent rockers to do so, as he is reportedly in negotiation with Sony to seal the deal. Now, there are reports of certain labels looking to snag Sting and David Bowie’s valuable IP.
Universal Music Group has been reported to be negotiating a nearly $250 million deal for Sting’s song catalog, and Warner Music Group has been reported to have their eyes on Bowie’s estate—potentially raising $535 million in debt to make it happen, well-cited financial reports have claimed.
Other iconic musicians to follow through with such a transaction include Bob Dylan, Stevie Nicks, Neil Young, Paul Simon, Blondie, and many more.
