Kendra Erika Lands Her First #1 on Billboard Dance with “Self Control”

A well-deserved congrats are in order for Boca Raton’s uber talented Kendra Erika. The multiple Billboard Charting artist has claimed the top spot on the Billboard Dance Charts with her hit single “Self Control.” This is Kendra Erika’s 3rd top 10 song in less than two years.

“Words cannot express how thrilled I am to reach this pinnacle,” said Kendra Erika. “3rd time’s a charm!”

Kendra Erika’s “Self Control” is a remake of Laura Branigan’s 80’s dance hit. A club favorite, her spin offers a futuristic new age nuance to the dance classic. The single, produced by Grammy Award winning producer Damon Sharpe and Eric Sanicola, celebrates the 25th anniversary of Branigan’s original club favorite.

Along with the single is a complete remix package of the song, including exclusive productions by Ralphi Rosario, Moto Blanco, and Dirty Werk.

“Laura’s original was a trailblazer in its time,” says Kendra Erika. “It was important to Damon and me that our version stand out from the deep house, dance music of today. We wanted a record that belonged to the next decade and beyond.”

Branigan’s “Self Control” famously encouraged listeners to slip into the alluring world of nightlife. As a pop artist who got her start in clubs, its message is significant to Kendra Erika. “I connect with the song’s vibe. I also believe today’s clubbers can take a lesson from the song.”

“I see too many people on the dance floor buried in their devices,” she explains. “They’re so involved with what’s going on outside the club, they forget to enjoy the moment they are in. They would be wise to heed Laura’s advice and ‘live among the creatures of the night.'”

Laura Branigan’s “Self Control” released in 1984. It peaked at no. 4 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and climbed to no. 2 on the dance chart.

“It’s crazy to think that Laura Branigan is gone,” reflects Kendra Erika. “However, her spirit lives on as twenty-five years later, her music still lights up dance floors all over the world.”
