In 2008, Katy Perry was introduced to us with her single “I Kissed a Girl.” This single would be her first debut number one hit, but certainly not her last. So, why are we talking about it today? Well, the single was released this week eight years ago! On April 28, 2008, we were blessed with Katy’s talent.
The song was a huge hit selling over 4.5 digital units in the United States. It is considered the 10th best-selling single of this century and was a nominee at the 51st Annual Grammys. Most recently, the song was a part of her performance at the 2015 NFL Championship game.
Interestingly enough, the music video for this single introduced us all to Kesha as she was in the video, but was not a household name at that time. Co-writers for the song include Benny Blanco and Dr. Luke, who we have all heard of because of the recent allegations Kesha has had against him.
