Just How Good As the Music in 1975?

1975 was an interesting year. Those involved in the Watergate scandal were found guilty and sentenced to prison; ‘SNL’ made its debut on NBC with George Carlin as the first host, Olivia Newton-John, Stevie Wonder and the song “The Way We Were” grabbed a hold of the music headlines. Here are a few songs that stick out for obvious reasons in 1975…

“Bohemian Rhapsody” by an up and coming band from the UK called Queen hit the FM lists of songs played, released as a single from the ‘Night at the Opera’ album. The song is in the Grammy Hall of Fame and considered to be an anthem of rock.

“Walk This Way” originally from Aerosmith’s ‘Toys in the Attic’ LP from 1975 was a real turning point for the boys. The song had two lives, as Run-D.M.C collaborated with the band in 1986, becoming one of the most popular videos on the MTV channel.

“Born to Run” by Bruce Springsteen takes the rock world by storm in 1975. The single from the album of the same name was so groundbreaking, leading rock critic Jon Landau saw Bruce in concert and was quoted as saying “‘I’ve seen the future of Rock and Roll and his name is Bruce Springsteen.” Jon would later weasel his way into the entourage and begin producing Bruce’s albums until 1992.
