Ah, June. School’s out, the days are long, and the weather’s getting toasty. We get it—your vacation is beckoning.  But before you slather yourself with SPF 75 and reach for a margarita, do yourself a favor and tackle a few maintenance projects. A little pain now means a big gain later—you’ll ensure your home runs smoothly through the dog days of summer.

When temperatures rise, so does your water bill. In the early Summer, you need to do a thorough check of your sprinklers and/or drippers and if necessary, service your yard’s irrigation system to save water, prevent damage to your landscaping, and reduce standing water.

If your region has instilled water rationing regulations, make sure your sprinklers are programmed to follow any local guidelines.  Program your system to optimal summer use settings to keep the landscape looking fresh.

If you’ve done everything you can and your water bill is still sky high, it may be time to call in the utility company.  Your local water provider can come and do a check for unseen leaks to your pipes or system.  Or, if you simply don’t know what kind of maintenance your sprinkler system needs, a pro can take it on for an average of $95 to $123.
