The rock and roll world lost another star this week, as Boston native and founding member of 70s rock J. Geils was found unresponsive in in his Groton, Massachusetts home. Medical examiners have determined no foul play, J. dying of natural causes.

J. Geils founded the J. Geils Band in Worcester in the late 60s, hitting the charts for the next two decades with hits like ‘Centerfold,” “Give it to Me” and “Looking for Love.” “Freeze Frame” was the bands biggest hit, released in 1981, peaking at number one on the ‘Billboard Hot 100’ in February 1982.

The J. Geils Band has been nominated four times for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, unsuccessful in receiving enough votes for admission into the Hall. J. led the life of a rock star, finding time to race Italian sports cars, a passion he held well into his 50s.

John Warren Geils Jr. knew how to please a crowd; make it loud and play it proud. J. Geils, dead at the age of 71.
