The Eagles were one of the biggest bands in the 70s because they captured the Folk Rock sound so well, crossing over from pop to rock so easily. This last week the Eagles announced a 2018 tour that joins them with country singer Chris Stapleton and Jimmy Buffett, so let’s share more Eagles fun facts.
Glenn Frey died before the band could be honored at the Kennedy Center Awards, but the city of Royal Oak his hometown named a street after him.
Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Bernie Leadon, and Randy Meisner primarily knew each other as the backup and road band for Linda Ronstadt in the early 70s but broke away to start a new band called the Eagles.
The band ran into a rough patch personally, remaining apart for a few years. Someone asked Don Henley if the band would ever have a reunion; he said “when hell freezes over,” which became the name of the tour immediately after they reconciled.
The band was admitted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998, selling upwards of 140 million records. Although considered a California band, Glenn was born and raised in Michigan, Don in Texas.
