George Martin was more than a producer for the Beatles; he produced or arraigned all but one of the Beatles albums. George had the vision and the script the boys would follow all the way to super stardom. Sadly, George Martin died a few weeks ago at the age of 90. His influence can be heard on many of the Beatle classics. Here’s part three of ‘Songs by the Other George,’ our salute to George Martin…

“Here Comes the Sun” is a classic Beatles’ song that had George Martins fingerprints all over it. George Martin changed the key, added the flutes and two clarinets, and the piccolos – instruments that were never heard before in rock songs. George Martin called “Here Comes the Sun” the finest Beatles’ song ever written and recorded, and was extremely proud of his contributions to the song.

“Eleanor Rigby” showcased the double string quartet arrangement by George Martin. In fact, none of the Beatles played an instrument on the song. All of the music in this song came from musicians George Martin hired and conducted. The Beatles simply added their vocals.
