Gabrielle Union es oriunda de Omaha, Nebraska, pero se mudó a Pleasanton California cuando tenía 8 años, y terminó sus estudios. Gabrielle fue una excelente atleta, convirtiéndose en una armadora de todas las estrellas como una joven en ascenso. En la Universidad de Nebraska, sus planes eran ir a la Facultad de Derecho, pero terminó modelando para ganar dinero extra; finalmente deslizándose en el teatro y actuando conciertos.
