Not sure if you’re in the mood for something serious or silly? This Friday has movie releases on both ends of the scale with The Desperate Hour and Tyler Perry’s A Madea Homecoming.

Directed by Phillip Noyce, The Desperate Hour follows a recently widowed mother Amy Carr (Naomi Watts) who is doing her best to restore normalcy to the lives of her young daughter and teenage son in their small town. As she’s on a jog in the woods, she finds her town thrown into chaos as a shooting takes place at her son’s school. Miles away, on foot in the dense forest, Amy desperately races against time to save her son. The film is rated PG-13 and also stars Theo James, Colton Gobbo, and Sierra Maltby alongside Watts.

Madea returns for the twelfth time in Tyler Perry’s A Madea Homecoming, and she’s not putting up with any nonsense as family drama erupts at her great-grandson’s college graduation celebration. The film is produced, written, and directed by Tyler Perry. It stars Perry, Cassi Davis-Patton, David Mann, Tamela Mann, Gabrielle Dennis, and Brendan O’Carroll. A Madea Homecoming will be available to watch on Netflix beginning this Friday.
