Fiesta del Albariño!

International Albariño Days, a celebration of the Albariño grape, are here!  We are encouraging everyone to open a bottle of Albariño, enjoy the fun, and share their experiences online with the hashtag #AlbarinoFiesta.

The official International Albariño day is on August 1, but many people have started celebrating for a whole week (August 1 – 5), calling them International Albariño DAYS, to coincide with the Fiesta del Albariño held in the small coastal town of Cambados, Spain, in the Rias Baixas region, during the first week of August.

The Albariño grape is traditionally grown throughout Rias Baixas, a wine region in Galicia in northwestern Spain.  The warm days of summer are the perfect time to enjoy this bright, crisp, white wine. It delivers a range of flavors including citrus, white flowers, stone fruit and ripe melons; always with a nice backbone of acidity and often an interesting minerality that pairs beautifully with salads and seafood dishes.

Albariño is also grown in Portugal, where it is known as Alvarinho.  Now it is being grown in in California and throughout North America with great success.  In fact, the Lodi Tour of Albarino is a new annual event in a wine region that has become quite well known for their ability to produce stellar Spanish varietals.
