Fall Fashions 2019: The Great Color Showdown

Neutrals and bright colors had the ultimate showdown in this season’s collections. Designers presented a range of fashion trends for fall, from look-at-me bold colors to a clean, classic, more austere sensibility.

More designers than ever filled the runways with color, color, and more color, all the colors of the rainbow, in fact. Bright pinks, purples, oranges, and blues took over at brands like Carolina Herrera, Sies Marjan, and Rosie Assoulin. Newcomer Tomo Koizumi made the case to wear rainbow colors by wowing crowds with his debut show that nodded to couture with his extreme ruffled dresses. The predominant shade (bold and cheery, almost marigold) was identified as “Aspen Gold,” by Pantone, which it describes as: “Brightening our day, [it] stimulates feelings of joy and good cheer.”

On the other end of the season’s trend spectrum, classic minimalism was seen in the form of monochromatic color palettes, updated leather dresses and playful pleats. Jonathan Simkhai and Sally LaPointe showed refined versions of monochromatic dressing, Simkhai with effortless slipdresses over plaid pants and mixing prints in hues of pink, blue and yellow. LaPointe interpreted the trend by layering separates, like fur coats over silk jumpsuits and sequined tops tucked into wool trousers, in hues of mint, lilac and brown. Predominantly beige and butter hues shaped collections at The Row, Gabriela Hearst, and Boss, proving you can never go wrong with a classic color palette.

Ah, but which palette will be the winner come Fall 2019? Let the fashion games begin.
