The postage stamp was just $.05 cents, a gallon of gas was priced at $.50 cents, and “Strangers in the Night,” Frank Sinatra won the Grammy for ‘Song of the Tear.’ If we were to take a time machine back to this date in April of 1967, what would we hear on the radio? Here are the top 10 songs from April of 1967:

1. “I’m a Believer” The Monkees
2. “To Sir With Love” Lulu
3. “The Letter” The Box Tops
4. “Light My Fire” The Doors
5. “Windy” The Association
6. “Ode to Billie Joe” Bobbie Gentry
7. “Daydream Believer” The Monkees
8. “Happy Together” The Turtles
9. “Something Stupid” Nancy Sinatra & Frank Sinatra
10. “I Heard It Through The Grapevine” Gladys Knight & The Pips (Soul)

Conclusions: As you can see, there was a great deal of diversity in popular music in 1967 in spite of the racial, anti-war, and gender troubles haunting the country. There are only two acts in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Can you name them? The Doors and Gladys Knight and the Pips!

Ok, so the photo doesn’t show either of their faces, but it’s a […]
