One hit wonders are great songs from bands or singers that hit the charts only once, disappearing back to their day jobs. Here are three more of our favorite one hit wonders…
Sally Fields was the flying nun, but ‘The Singing Nun’ hit the charts in the mid-60s with a One Hit Wonder called ‘Dominique’ and the secular world took notice. This French nun was Sister Luc-Gabrielle who was a wonderful singer in Belgian. Sadly, her 15 minutes of fame was up, though her demise was ever sadder. She took her own life in 1985, alongside her significant other Annie Pecher. The story quietly closed on a real nun that made music history just once.
The Fifth Estate from Stamford Connecticut gave the world the Wizard of Oz spoof song “Ding Dong! The Witch Is Dead” in 1965. They beat out Eric Burden and the Animals and the Dave Clark Five in a local DJ contest just before they hit it big. Just once of course.
“Something in the Air” by a studio band called Thunderclap Newman was actually a propped up band by the Who’s Pete Townshend, drummer Speedy Keen, and 15 year old guitarists Jimmy McCulloch. Andy Newman the namesake and founder just died last week at the age of 73.
Keith Urban has let it be known that he will be working with Carrie Underwood on his upcoming album, “Ripcord.” He announced it on the red carpet of the ACM Awards this past weekend. “Ripcord” has had some publicity recently, as he has released the names of 12 songs on the album and he has also announced another collaboration on the album.
