Elton John’s Greatest Albums of All Time

Elton John is rock star with a conscience, and recently performed with Adele and others at a Hillary Clinton fundraiser in NYC. On hand were other political dignitaries including former President Bill Clinton.

Elton was knighted by the royalty of England in 1998, has earned 6 Grammy awards over his incredible career, and was inducted onto the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame in 1994.

Here are our top Elton John albums. These albums are ones we believe defined Elton and songwriter Bernie Taupin.

The album ‘Goodbye Yellow Brick Road’ gave fans the songs “Candle in the Wind,” “Saturday Night are Alright for Fighting,” and “Bennie and the Jets.” Come on! We’d be celebrating any group that had recorded just one of the those classics! “Candle in the Wind” took on a life of its own after the tragic death of Princess DI, and we think Elton has never sang it again after the funeral for her.

“Madman Across the Water” was a significant album in the mid-70s that produced “Tiny Dancer,” “Levon,” and the title track “Madman Across the Water.” The business significance is that this new radio frequency FM was looking for songs to play, and this album feed the FM hit machine.

“Honky Chateau” is a playful album that seemed to allow Elton to be himself, recording releasing the top singles “Rocket Man,” (which is as famous as it was back then) “Honky Cat” and the closet hit “Mona Lisa and Mad Hatters.” Thanks to the Cameron Crowe “Almost Famous” movie that brought so many of Elton’s songs back to life.
