Sir Elton John has earned nearly every music award ever imagined, and through his humanitarian efforts over the years, has also earned the recognition for supporting the causes he deems worthy.

It’s no surprise to hear that Elton is now the recipient of the coveted Harvard Humanitarian of the Year, given annually to the most deserving public figure that leverages celebrity for the less fortunate. Elton founded the Elton John AIDS Foundation in 1992, for the purpose of raising awareness and prevention with the treatment of HIV/AIDS. The foundation has raised nearly $400 million dollars for marketing and research.

Elton will personally receive this honor this afternoon on the campus of Harvard, 4 pm, in Sanders Theatre in Memorial Hall. Previous winners include Lionel Richie, Rihanna, Sharon Stone and James Earl Jones.
